Your Beauty Questions Answered!

First let me just start off by saying how glad I am I took on the challenge of starting a blog as my New Year's Resolution exactly one year ago today!

I doubted my ability to stick with it. I doubted my ability to put out material on a fairly consistent basis that people would find interesting. I doubted I would have or make the time to sit down, write, take pictures & videos, etc.

I exceeded my own expectations and I can truly say that I'm proud of myself! The hard work it is keeping up with a blog is well worth it when I get a message from a reader saying they tried a product and fell in love with it, or something I recommended has made their get-ready routine faster or easier.

Just a simple weekly writing exercise I challenged myself to turned into a national opportunity through Sophie T. Simmons website "No Filter", an unexpected Blog of the Year award from NEPA BlogCon, (thanks, guys!) and so much more.

So thank you SO much for the support, and always feel free to message with any questions you have about anything.

That being said, a few weeks ago I put out a post asking anyone if they had any questions regarding product recommendations or application techniques, and I got a bunch of comments, messages, and emails. I put them all together in this post. Enjoy and Happy New Year lovelies!

Q: What can I do about my puffy under-eye area?

A: I've been really lucky in that I haven't had to deal with any puffiness, but from everything I've read Clinique makes an awesome rollerball: All About Eyes De-Puffing Serum ($30). You can even go one step further and keep it in the fridge. The cooling effect will be intensified and will help to soothe that delicate area.

I should add here that I recently found a night-time under-eye cream that I'm obsessed with. I hate that feeling where you're laying in bed at night and your eye cream is creeping into your eyes and burning or stinging. The Kiehl's Avocado Creamy Under Eye Treatment ($28.50) is super smooth, hydrating, and does not budge. It won't migrate into your eye area at all, and you'll wake up with more supple under-eye skin.

Q: What's the best makeup for when I'm breaking out and don't really want to add makeup on top of the breakouts but I still want coverage?

A: This is one I get a lot. Honestly I think the Bare Minerals "Ready" Foundation ($29) is a huge game changer. On days when I'm not on camera, this is always my go-to. I never really had a lot of luck with the classic Bare Minerals powder. Just too light and not enough coverage. The Ready Foundation, which comes in a black compact with a mirror, is still made from all the natural good stuff you would find in the traditional powder, but the coverage is flawless. Let me add though, you MUST use a primer first. You won't get that high-coverage look without one. Their Prime Time BB Cream ($26) is excellent for use underneath the Ready powder. It doesn't clog your pores, and goes on great over breakouts. **Extra tip: get matched up with your shade in-store by a Sephora or Ulta associate. It's too hard to tell what color you are through the internet swatches.**

Q: What's the best way to keep my makeup from budging for a long night or a big event?

A: Three big things: primer, matte pressed powder, and setting spray. The Too Faced Primed and Poreless ($30) is great for making your pores look smaller and providing a good base. Rimmel makes a great Stay Matte Pressed Powder ($4.99--inexpensive too!) and the Urban Decay All-Nighter Finishing Spray ($14 or $30) will do you right for combating against sweat or long-wear.

Q: What's the best mascara out there?

A: This might vary from person to person, but my current favorite is the Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara ($23). Funny name, amazing results. Two nice coats of this and you'll look like you're wearing falsies. If you're looking for something somewhat comparable but not as expensive, the L'Oreal Voluminous Carbon Black ($7.99)  is always a great option.

Q: Any recommendation on a good makeup remover?

A: I stopped using makeup remover when I made the switch to Philosophy Purity Made Simple Face Wash ($11-44).

I gently rub it all over my eye area and rinse while I'm washing my face. Absolutely no irritation, non-drying, and smells great. Why add a step into your cleansing routine if you don't have to?

Q: Where do I add "highlighter"?

A: There are a bunch of areas on your face where you can add a brightening effect or shimmer, but the area it will make the most impact is right above your cheekbones, going up underneath your eye bone. I recommend the MAC Mineralize Skinfinish ($32) or the Becca x Jaclyn Hill Shimmering Skin Perfector ($38).

Q: Any Product recommendations for men?

A: I actually got a bunch of requests for posts on men's products. I enlisted the help of my fabulous friend Ryan to spill on his grooming product must-haves:

1) Clinique for Men Face Bronzer ($19) - For a luminous, healthy-looking tan

2) eos Lip Balm ($3.49) - My favorite, too!

3) Any Brand Clear Mascara ($3-10) - For grooming stray brow hairs

4) Micro Touch Max Personal Hair Trimmer ($14.99) - Do I really need to explain? Ain't NOBODAYYY want to see your nose hairs peeking out to say hello.

Hope you guys enjoyed the post. As I mentioned before, feel free anytime to message me with a question. Have a wonderful 2016. May your brows always match and your liner never smudge. Cheers! Xx
